There isn’t a ‘dark side’ of our Moon. Both sides of the Moon see the same amount of sunlight and darkness but the same side is always facing the Earth so only one face of the Moon is ever seen from Earth. This bead is as if the Moon is seen from space.
The lampwork beads are made in my Christchurch, New Zealand, workspace at XCHC, a shared maker space. It is made by melting and winding glass rods so it resembles the NASA photographs of the Moon and, while the glass is still hot, is treated to make a matt and cratered surface like our Moon.
The bead is strung on a 45cm sterling silver chain, with sterling silver wire setting and bead caps.
